Cosmetic Gynecology FAQs About Vaginal Rejuvenation
For women, the function of the vagina is very important, including how it looks and feels. That’s why cosmetic gynecology and vaginal rejuvenation are such important topics.
Because of how delicate dealing with these types of things is, it is important to know enough up front about procedures that are worth considering, as well as, any concerns or questions that are outstanding. In this post, we will focus specifically on the rejuvenation procedure and try to answer some of the frequently asked questions that many women have about the procedure, its benefits, and its risks.
What is vaginal rejuvenation?
Rejuvenation of the vagina is a procedure that is used in cosmetic gynecology to restore shape and function to the vagina. It has both aesthetic and medical benefits for the woman, so it is one of the most popular procedures for a woman, particularly those who have had children or women past a certain age who have lost sensation in the vagina.
The procedure is fairly simple, and though it is invasive, it is considered fairly low risk and has minimal risk for side effects.
What does vaginal rejuvenation treat?
The rejuvenation procedure improves the inner form of the vagina. Most notably, rejuvenation can improve the amount of feeling and sensation that a woman has from intercourse. In many cases, a woman may experience little to no sensation during intercourse or, in worst-case scenarios, may experience pain during intercourse.
The procedure can also treat vaginal dryness, which can be a problem as a woman ages. The vagina is meant to be naturally lubricated, but changes in hormone levels, medical conditions, and menopause can cause dryness. Dryness can result in pain and itching in and around the vagina.
Lastly, rejuvenation can be used to treat bladder leakage. Over time the muscles along the vaginal wall that help support the bladder begin to weaken. This problem is made worse by childbirth. In severe cases, it can result in complete loss of bladder control. The procedure works to reposition and tighten the muscles along the vaginal wall.
How long does the procedure and recovery take?
It can take one to two hours for the standard cosmetic gynecology procedure. During this time, the patient is typically given anesthesia. However, modern technology has allowed the procedure to be performed with just local anesthesia; the standard procedure is a bit more in-depth and invasive.
The recovery process varies based on the amount of work that is done on the inside of the vagina. There are two basic ways that rejuvenation can be done, shallow depth, where only the area around the opening is treated, and full-depth rejuvenation, where the entire vaginal canal, the vaginal wall, and the muscle tissue are all reconstructed. The recovery time is around four to six weeks, depending on which procedure is used. It is advised to avoid intercourse during this time, as well as the risk of damaging the area until the healing process is complete.
